Poem Artwork

I was all of ten,

The time I ran away, way back when,

I took my little 13 foot plywood boat,

Leaked like a sieve, was summer,

Didn’t even need a coat…

I followed the inter-coastal waterway,

From NJ all the way to North Carolina,

Appropriated my dads gas card,

And three six gallon gas tanks,

An eighteen horse power engine,

And a bag of junk food, the seats were quite hard…

Beached the boat to sleep at night,

Only got as far as I could in the light,

Took a few days but it was for me fun,

Though when I got to my grandparents,

My grandfather spanked me for scaring them,

Then when my dad came down on his boat,

I got another spanking from him,

Then he took the motor & gas tanks off my boat,

And towed it out in the ocean and sank it,

Never again in that one did I ever float…

On the way home, I had to sleep on my stomach,

And I could not sit, had to stand all the way,

And still I had not seen my mom, I must have turned her hair gray…J

Quite an adventure, Huckleberry Ed! As Edvard says, we always wondered what happened to that boat. And I think when you did that, I had already run away from home.

So...that's the BIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGG secret Mom was holding from us all the time they told us you were visiting Grandpa and Grandma? And PeeWee and me that wished to get the same you got! ! ! boy we were dumb, although we ask ourselves what the hell happened to that moth eating boat of yours.
Thanks for coming clear, I will write when I stop laughing so hard.

Edvard the Elder

PS PeeWee is rolling on the floor, don't mind him...ha! ha! ha! ha!

It is funny the things we do as kids seeking adventure. I remember two friends and I around the same age stole an old wooden row boat patched it with tar scraped off beach rocks, told our parents we were sleeping over at each others houses and then rowed this leaky boat down the harbour to raid an Island boy scout camp to steal their flag because we had heard them brag it was never done. We lost our oars in the middle of a shipping lane, almost got run over by a tanker, and came close to capsizing but...mission accomplished we took that flag and then got in trouble the next day when we returned it. lol

Cool adventure! I would have loved to have joined you, but I wouldn't have wanted to share in the spankings:-)

Thanks for sharing your neat experience.
