Sitting on the 34th street rock jetty…

When I was young the ocean did the jetty surround,

But things have changed a bit, now we can walk it around,

In my youth I knew every boulder by heart,

I could walk its length even in the nighttime dark…

 

So many times I did sit on its end,

The cold ocean spray I did off of me fend,

I cried a lot there & wished for death,

I remember trying to overdose there on crystal meth…

 

But mom ocean wouldn’t let me there die,

She forced me with crashing waves to live,

Sending me off the jetty, back to my world,

I wondered then and there many times, why,

I guess at times I still wonder, my childhood such a lie…

 

Been quite a few years since I last the jetty walked,

Though times have changed, I have always with the ocean talked,

Actual answers I may not get, perhaps it’s the way I talk to God,

There as well, mom ocean has always given me a positive nod…

Very emotional write with deep feelings expressed so well. Ed, I think we all have our special place that we can return to just to refocus and regroup...mine is a stretch of gravel and sand beach not to far from where I live called Lawrencetown Beach.

God for us that you didn't suceeded and that mother ocean scolded you for trying, because you see, you have got brothers and friends that really do care for you.

Well Ed... I sure hope you are doing things much better now...We do some silly things as youngsters...and even adults as well... but sometimes things/life just overwhelms.... We just have to be positive and know that things will be better... "this too shall pass" has been my credo for most of my life... so far it works...

O' I could picture you as a little guy sitting there talkin to the ocean and as you were struggling with life all those things you told mother ocean she remembered and brought you safely home. Beautiful write and soooooooo touching. Love, Bonnie
