A taut ship was she,

Fast in her own way,

No cannon for weight,

Carried she did more freight,

Her captain too, twas great…

A small crew,

Them all he knew,

All mighty sailing men,

She weren’t no canoe…

From tropics to arctic,

We plied the seas,

To sail her,

Was emotionally cathartic…

Wine, women & song,

We saved for so long,

Once on land we partied strong,

While at sea her captain never wrong…

He made his ship to be the best,

Everywhere we sailed a gainful quest,

One day we assume he was depressed,

We now pray for those men,

And hope they are by the lord blest…

It's a shame to see a taut ship like that.

As an old sailor I know all too well the laws and dangers of the sea, the Captain is as close to God as you can find on earth and takes the responsibility for his officers and crew until they return once more to their home port. You captured the life of a ship and her crew so well.

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson

For a time, I perched myself on a flat rock, comparing my life with the Guyandotte River. Just as its tributaries replenish it daily, changing it in some small—sometimes great—degree, so have the day-to-day occurrences of life changed me. Like the ri
