A Much BETTER Time...

Ah for those better times to return again...

Poem Artwork

No computers,

No digital TV’s,

No stereo’s,

No FM stations,

No electronic ignitions,

No printers,

Nor cell phones…

A happier time,

When we read to our girls a rhyme,

No way but a pinch to measure thyme,

No digital watches as well to measure time…

Home before dark,

Traveling was a lark,

A day with mom at the park,

No worries while swimming of a shark,

Didn’t know then what was a narc,

Waiting on the 4th of July for that first in the sky spark…

No responsibilities,

Life went along quite easily,

Rolling in a field of lilies,

Laughing with a case of the sillies,

Following all summer, whether they did win or lose, the Phillies…

Dear Ed, you bet I know these times very well: "Home before dark, Traveling was a lark,". Thank for reminding us those simpler times. Emile

JOISEY - LOVE IT! ONE OF YOUR ABSOLUTE FINEST! AND PICTURE PERFECT TOO!

While we're strolling down Ole Primrose Lane - a few more nostalgic truths ...

No indoor plumbing, only an OUT-house,
which always did STINK!
And carrying out the "Honey-Bucket"
and dumping - quick as a Wink!

OH - the odor that stunk up the House -
from the modern cantankerous Trap -
Carefully unspringing that poor dead Mouse,
Watch your fingers - OUCH! SNAP!

Studyin' and Larnin' your ABC's -
if you got it Wrong,
A Wooden Ruler on the Knuckles -
if'n you didn't Please!

Every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday -
During Lent -you had to FAST -
Oh, No! No More Tuna Fish -
Sick of it - I am AGHAST!

An Apple a day kept the Doctor Away -
But - without it, your innards did Recoil -
Open your Mouth -
Down poured the Castor Oil!

Clang, Clang, Clang -
Rang the Bell of the Trolley,
Took forever to get Anywhere -
Slow speed was our tedious Folly!

And of course, way back Then,
there was no Furnace -
Stoking the Coals in the ole Potbelly -
Would often Burn Us!

When camping out, Rubbing Sticks
Together to start a Fire was Neat -
but when it didn't Work -
Wooden matches helped us to Cheat!

Ah, Yes - Those were the Days, my Friend -
We'd Sing and Dance - it would never End -
but, Modern Times did come Along -
God Bless Thermostats - they beat Long Johns!

Feelin' Low, and Melancholy?
Just go Deck your Balls -
with Boughs of Holly!
Fa-Le-La - Le-La - Le-La-Le-La-La-laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah !!!

:) :) :) ... Tom The New-Fangled ...

Ah the sweet nostalgia of looking back at our youth and wishing we could have those times again but...
alas if we did we would not have had the ability or the technology of the internet and the chance to make so many great friends as we have on Authors Den. Good job Ed.

Ed,

Beautiful nostalgia. And I love the picture of eraser, the world's first computer, even comes with a delete key on the end.

You have just described the dark ages, when Ma, PeeWee, You and me lived in that smelly cave and your MaryJoana plants, my God! we hadn't a 911 when those hungry brontosaurus were sniffing for us.
