I NEVER had enough time with my Dad...e

Poem Artwork

Gone since nineteen & eighty-nine,

You always considered this music fine,

You said rock & roll would go offline,

Are you listening to the big bands jazz,

That I am hearing right now, yours, not mine…

I can live with instrumental stuff,

But when they start crooning,

To stay with it I find quite rough,

Had to change my channels tuning…

Back to my rock,

Always gave you a shock,

To be honest, Dad, when taking stock,

I quite enjoyed us sharing our sounds,

Though I didn’t know it then,

We were closer to mutual Zen…

There are so many things we find out, often too late, that we share in common with our fathers. My father also died when I was quite young and at first all I could remember was this strict authoritarion who had muscles of steel but little affection or at least displayed such. It was only after I began researching a book about his life before, during and after WWII that I realized how close we really were. Thanks for the reminder Ed...

My daddy loved opera, polkas, popular/big band, even Chinese or Mexican mariachi: as long as it was different or good, he enjoyed it. He also loved country (Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, Hank, Sr., Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, etc.). This poem brings back many pleasant memories of my big, strong daddy. How I miss him (as I know you miss your daddy)! Beautiful tribute; well penned, Ed! Love the piccy of your pops!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

I don't know what kind of music my father liked, as I remember we were on different planets, his and ours (his children) separated by a few zillion light years.
I got hellbent on classic music it gave me a kind of companionship, later on, country and...a few more.
You were lucky having your old man sharing with you.

This was nice. I agree about the crooning. It can get old within a measure or too. Our house was eclectic when it came to music. My dad was a bit on the redneck side so country music was common along with old rock. My mom was on the classical side. Neither cared what my brother and I played. Enjoyed.

Funny how that works. I too had to draw a line, polkas and Mitch Miller. Ooof. Patrick
