Southern comfort memories…

Poem Artwork

I don’t anymore drink,

It made me obnoxious & I did also stink,

Now if we go out I am the designated driver,

But I do recall many memories being a survivor…

 

We’d hop into one of our cars,

Heading usually to the Wildwood(NJ) bars,

There was a 50’s style place, a disco-ish place,

And then there was the Penalty Box,

This with the rock was the one that really rocked…

 

Eight Southern comfort shots in a neat row,

With a Miller chaser to follow each,

Then to the bathroom to of them blow,

Back to the bar for another round,

Or onto the disco to dance we’d be bound…

 

We’d close the bar, whichever one we ended in,

Then in the summer up the beach for a quick dip,

Then back home stopping numerous times to puke,

No wonder my gall bladder did eventually break,

Back then I was a really crazy kook…

A Southern Comfort drunk? Sweet Ouch! No wonder you puked all the way home. On the bright side puking is nature's way of saying humans don't run on ethanol. At least very far. Patrick

Those were the days. Sometimes I wonder how we survived. Thanks for the memories of our foolish antics. :)

Yow! In a past life I drank enough Southern Comfort to have slipped into numerous diabetic comas (lucky I didn't). And just thinking about Miller Lowlife is enough to give me a splitting headache and make me head out into the backyard to feed the deer. I was a purist who prefered bourbon, but occasionally went after the extra kick of 100 proof syrup. I think we agree that there is something out there a lot better than booze.

PS: Christmas is just around the corner. If you're still stumped for my gift this year, may I suggest getting me a nice bottle of Bourbon - Maker's Mark, Pappy Vanwinkle, Wild Turkey, etc.
