Sand dunes like mountains...

Poem Artwork

We were about ten to eleven,

We tired of riding around our home town,

We were actually tired of it by seven,

So we rode to the next town, island down,

Avalon was the name, they had mountains…

The sand dunes located mid town,

Of course along the beach,

They were to us, who had never seen real mountains,

Mountainous & full of adventure, a place to play army,

And they were pretty far out of our parents reach…

Up and down we rolled, pretending to be shot,

The dunes were covered in trees where we hid a lot,

Once we happened upon two lovers doing the “dirty”,

We watched for a long time, then I got bored,

Threw a can down off the dune,

That ended their display, making my friends at me mad…

Was time then to ride our bikes home,

Over the inlet bridge we rode,

From 93rd in TI to 44th in Sea Isle,

As always got home in time for dinner,

That day I will always cherish,

That day for all of us was really a winner…J

Thank you for sharing a childhood memory with us. I use to play in the dunes, picking berries off the bushes, making decorations of this and that. I never ate the berries, and when I got bored I would go back to the beach and swim. As a adult I learnt the berries where poisonous. Good thing I never had a hunger pain while decorating LOL.

What a day! And it was just like you to be a spoil sport. And to be home for dinner. ;-)

My only remembrance of dunes was when I rode in a big dune buggy over some very steep ones on the coast of Oregon. It was a fun ride.
