Poem Artwork

Since a kid I loved dipping them,

In warm mustard or cheese,

When riding with dad I begged,

Can we stop & get some please…?

My stomach now doesn’t seem to of them like,

But still I eat them, they of me out-psych,

I love them when fresh with salt,

Or after a day or so, as long as they are soft…

They bring back memories of childhood,

Just as some foods could,

Wish I wJas able to express that they are so good,

You will just have to try them & let me know,

I hope you will do so, I really think you should…

I eat pretzels every day––a small stick variety––about a half handful. One of those soft pretzels, while tempting, is a killer––diabetesville. Have only shared one and that was too much.

I remember when my niece moved back to her childhood home near Philadelphia, remarking, “Can't wait to get some of that Philly cheese steak!” She left there for Fort Worth after a few years, having put several pounds on her previously knockout slim body.

Difficult to find them around by me anymore. I agree they were some childhood treat with a coke or pepsi.

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson

For a time, I perched myself on a flat rock, comparing my life with the Guyandotte River. Just as its tributaries replenish it daily, changing it in some small—sometimes great—degree, so have the day-to-day occurrences of life changed me. Like the ri
