Marshland channels known by heart...

Sometimes I get great memories from my childhood, this is one of those memories...

Poem Artwork

When young I knew every channel,
My boat, the Leakie Tiki and I, traversed them all,
Played and raced all about throughout the summer months,
Not removing the boat from the water till late in the fall…

Used to run the boat to high school; twelve miles away,
Left home quite early in the morning, returning later in the day,
Docked it at the Ocean City Yacht club while in school,
After school was swim team in the pool…

One problem to get through in both directions,
Was the railroad bridge, most times needing to be opened,
To boat traffic on the inter-coastal,
By the time I got there it was too late for course corrections…

If it were a nice day at sea,
Even in a 13 foot plywood boat I would ply the oceans waves,
Seems to some I was just, in doing so, digging my own watery grave,
But to me it was an adventure, as I knew then for certain,
That I would live forever, no worries for deaths curtain…

Nice image and thoughts, bubba. A 13 foot dinghy on the ocean is quite an adventure for a burgeoning young boy. Enjoyed.

A most appropriate name for your boat - 'Leakie Tiki!'

PS: I signed you up for 'The Shelter Shiver.' Please don't Leak in My Lake!!
