I like to live alone,
Without noise,
To interfere with my solitude,
Though right now, I do hear,
A generator in the distance,
Hammering not away far,
A bunch of kids screaming,
And someone in another apartment creaming…
The campground in which I once did live,
Nary a noise, only rarely a dogs bark,
No one passed or paused at my door,
No kids living in even close proximity,
Just the sounds of Nature, wind blowing through,
All the sounds today do make me feel blue,
The brats in a crowd across the street,
They gather like a gaggle of geese…
When you were a kid, did you make noise? I'm a tad bit older now (I sold Moses his first pair of sandals), and am amazed at how noise bothers me more over time. But, the one noise I always welcome is that of kids at play. You've helped me recall the days of football in the cow fields.
I'm sure glad you didn't get your wish in the lead into your poem. It isn't humorous in the least.
Like you, I've never had children. But I'm with Lois and not going to sympathize with you like the others. I'm sure the noise can be irritating, but it might keep your mind off of destructive thoughts if you go outside once in a while and just watch them play. With their parents' permission of course… People are so paranoid these days. I find kids wonderful and interesting. They are not afraid to ask me, "What happened to your hands?"
Perhaps you could ask your placement officer if you could be moved to a quieter apartment where you can be a wino grumpy old man without Ann-Margret to cheer you up. ;-)
If you had had some children of your own, you'd know they have to play and be noisy. My 4 are still noisy when they get together. That is life, Ed. No peace and quiet when children around.
The first house that I've bought with my brother here in Canada was a townhouse, where there was a large courtyard for the children to play. They often played outside of my bedroom window and it bugged the life out of me at first, but eventually I got used to their noise and didn't bother me so much then. Children are noisy but sometimes it's fun to watch them play.
I can empathize although there is not much noise up here. Mind you, my bike ride every day brings me in the midst of it and I really dislike it... ...the noise and the smell of gas and diesel fumes down there. It's always good to get back up here. Wishing you well,
Wine, eh? WoW! I hear you on the peace and quiet. I like it too, and pretty much have it where I am. There is a bit of street noise, but I guess I'm gotten used to it on the six years I've lived here. Good luck on you trying to keep those kids quiet.
Stress is everywhere! We don't have to do anything to find it. It will usually find us. How we handle that stress is the key factor in determining our wellbeing, both emotionally and physically.
Even though stress is so common, too many peop
