…let me start at the beginning…

Poem Artwork

As a child my imagination grew,
I grew up as an only child born,
Though I truly do not bear my parents any scorn,
They made their decisions, some good, some bad,
We had our problems, some that made us all very sad…

Because of these decisions, I imagined a life quite different,
I “day-dreamed” too much said most of my teachers,
I was, in my mind, quite powerful, though my body was quite frail,
I dreamed of being a part of a master race,
Always rich, always feared, but when I tried, I could never keep pace…

I grew to “semi-adulthood”, as my body grew but my mind did not,
A childhood mind I always had till forced to realize it with therapy I got,
Three years, 14 days & 9 hours of my life locked away,
Lose of freedom did not bother me as my imagination did intact stay…

I did grow up, but needed to do so more,
So as time passed after my “vacation” under the boot of the NJDOC*,
I actually grew older & finally “up”,
Though I still imagined all the good,
All the best things, all the things if I were rich,
The cars, homes, motorhomes, & boats, (always boats)
All mine, all fine, all STILL on my mind…

I go to my “precious room” quite often still,
I can lie in bed in the dark and “day” dream,
All I never had nor will likely ever have,
As it relaxes my mind, keeps away stress,
Allows me to go to sleep with happy thoughts,
And awaken the next day feeling refreshed,
Yes, my “PRECIOUS ROOM” is always with me & a part of me…

Precious memories, filed away in that precious room, I've done so too. Life is so short, but time goes on and we relate to each other as friends, and the Authors Den, has given me many friends like you who see life as it is and have enjoyed many pleasures in life.

If you don't have a dream....
My mum always says, recall the sunny hours.
Seems like the "adults" needed to unlearn.

Yes, you seem to reveal more of yourself as time passes and you gain more confidence, or adulthood. You've had an interesting life and an autobiography (prose not poetry) might be in order.

Precious Room best piece yet
there's always that place
one can retreat to and feel alive
Feel like you worth your weigh in gold
And able to fantasize all your dream
Most enjoyable reading
Yo! Ed, didn't blow u was a "bad boy"
Chicks like that chit
Peace be with you

Hold onto that "Precious Room". Memories and imagination, two of the things that make us who we are and allow us to dream. Sleep well.

Thanks,
Chris

My imagination still soars as an adult...we all have a place to
go, if one has an imagination, some don't...

Always,
Deborah

Well, at least you grew up, Ed; some people tell me that I never did; and now, I really don't care to. Love and peace and thanks for sharing,

I traveled some of the same roads you traveled, Ed. Dreamed of the open road and me on it, which I managed to fulfill that dream. Never dream of riches, just that open road. We are both where we are supposed to be I guess. I'm glad to be here, happy you are here too.

Seems to me we all have our own little "PRECIOUS ROOM"... now that you mention it.

I shall now repair to mine.

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson

For a time, I perched myself on a flat rock, comparing my life with the Guyandotte River. Just as its tributaries replenish it daily, changing it in some small—sometimes great—degree, so have the day-to-day occurrences of life changed me. Like the ri
