Talking to Mom

Of late I have just started to deal with my relationship with my mom. It wasn't pretty & I think that because of my not dealing with it, I have been unable to move on, as it were?

Poem Artwork

Not as easy as it was with dad,
Which too makes me rather sad,
We always seemed at odds,
But unlike dad, she never took to me rods…

Even now, after being gone so long,
I don’t much talk or think about mom,
Usually only in the negative, which I know is wrong,
But our relationship when she was alive was never becalmed…

She has not ever visited me in a dream that I can recall,
What more could happen between us now or ever befall,
We seemed like two magnets, pushing each other away,
It’s unfortunate for her she had many problems when I was young,
Not to mention the worst of them being her son.

Tears of a clown. The deck that life hands us has its reasons. Reading below I can see how it is already helping others to let fly the hurting from a child's innocence. The healing can begin. Especially when you discover inner demons she may have fought that made her aloof. Once the magic of forgiveness is appropriate and the shackles are gone, then you can fly on the breeze. Find that peace, inner peace, mate.

it is too bad that this happened to so many

I had a similar upbringing. I was never close to my parents. My father worked late hours, and my mother nagged me to death. Nothing was ever good enough for her. My father has visited me in dreams, but not her.

Sad yes... ...but honest and perhaps therapeutic and healing. Love and peace,

I feel very sad for you....My mom was a blessing....Just loved listening to her....Yes, her & my dad both visit....My mom leaves her Wind Song scent, my dad leaves a Clubman / barber shop aroma....

That's sad. I believe there's nothing worse than a mother that does not know what it means to be a mother. Had she been a mother for you, you would have probably turned out far different.

My mother was only 17 and greatly burdened by the birth of twins. She had a lot of growing up to do, very fast. But she had a good childhood that prepared her for adulthood and she took on mothering with a vengeance. She was so proud of us and treated us so well all our lives. There was nothing I could ask from her that she couldn't provide. Even staying there one time after I lost my job in Atlanta and had rented out my house for a summer, against my dad's wishes to be free from, "kids." The last time I saw her in 2011, she cried when I went to leave, saying that she would, "Never see me again." So far that's been true, but I'm trying to figure way to get back there and see her. In the meantime, she called last week and tries to call me every Monday at 4 PM.

Like your recent poem about your father, this one also seems heart-felt and inspiring. Well done.

I think for most of us, there's a love/hate relationship between parents and their kids. Sometimes it so easy to remember the bad times, you forget the good times. The sad part is it comes full circle with my own kids.

I relate, Ed.

Beautiful tribute, Ed. I was so handicapped when it came to really letting my parents know how I felt and when I tried, I'd get preached to. I know there was love although the words were never spoken. My mother would tell me, "There's no such thing as love.". Anyhow, I know I did feel it once big time!

Love ya!

Jane
