How I do miss my beach...

I've got to get down to the beach before it gets cooler...

Poem Artwork

From Sea Isle City he did fare,

He was 13 years old with blue eyes & fair hair,

His body tanned from days on the beach,

Swimming & cruising all the chicks, none out of reach…

But his favorite sport was surfing,

In his day, the long board was the way to ride,

Carrying it home on his head, it was quite heavy,

He rode his waves all day, whenever the feeling struck him…

Surfing was and still is always with him,

Maybe he lost some of his nerve, or maybe he got too old,

No longer was he, as he was when young, bold,

But many memories he has kept of his beach…

He doesn’t get there as much as he used too,

He doesn’t enjoy the crowds anymore,

Too much noise, too many brats, too much trash,

But remember he does when his beach was akin to a rash,

Something he had to scratch daily,

A place to be more than just rarely...

Your longing and yearning comes through loud and clear! Those days you spent on the beach were certainly dear. Makes me wonder how someone so athletically inclined, would let yourself go so in a later time. But that's another story, another poem.

If I lived close to the ocean, I too would be at the beach as often as I could. Being land locked, I have to settle for the woods and streams.

You have a kinship with the beach (ocean) as I do with the woods (mountain) here. Love and peace to you, Ed, ✌

I surfed in my teens, and for a few years in my twenties after I got out of the Army. Loved it. La Jolla Shores. Blacks Beach. Cardiff Reef. Lower Trestles. Doheny. Malibu. Huntington Beach. South Garbage. Always used Carl Ekstrom boards. He had a shop in La Jolla when I was young. For 350.00 bucks he would make you a custom board. Remember those days with fondness. Enjoyed your memories. Peace... r

Your love for "Mother Ocean" has shown in many poems you have written, Ed. Surfing is not as easy as it looks!! You are "one" with your beach and this poem shows it in fine fashion!

Love ya!

Jane
