At Georgia's new national cemetery
with family we visit, again, Mom,
Grandmama, Aunt Trulie, Trudy.
We always bring her favorite flowers,
fresh living Jonquils in bright yellow,
and place them in a vase at the stone.
It is all we have of her that's visible,
and we remember how vibrantly alive
and involved she was with each of us. .
Whispering about the good times, the
moments in which she starred, we
agree; she was the star on our stage.
It is meaningful and cleansing to
bring her into our lives for the few
minutes she joins us above ground.
The young get restless, wanting to
move on to find food and return to
the ongoing lives they know well.
After they walk to the car, I linger,
doing what I always loved; talk a bit
and be alone with her before forever.
It seems as though Susan and I have honed in on the same thought..."before forever". I'm a believer in forevers and ever evers. I know how important that private talk can be..and never one sided if you hang on tight to memory. And jonquils...fresh yellow breaths of Spring...I should have known.

I'm still ,mired in work and hanging paintings, unpacking history and relaxing to be spoiled by nature all around me.
I get here several times a week, when I can. I'll be back, full forced soon.
'And be alone with you before forever' What a lovely line, Bill! Those of us who share losing a loved one understand so well what those words mean... beautiful poem!
