In the cool of autumn it sits unused
moving ever so lightly in a breeze
A day when everything seems right
we sit in our old front porch swing
Why not enjoy it before winter and
catch the sun rays bouncing off earth
Facing west for a show of white clouds
turning to streaks of orange and blue
It all comes together as we absorb
quickly fearing its moments will fade
The huge orange ball controls colors
in a sky panorama performing on cue
Swinging gasping we ahhh at beauty
slowly shaking heads at the wonder
And point to places not to be missed
before disappearing into fading tints
Anticipating change we sigh and bathe
ourselves in the wash of gorgeous hues
Bursting with quiet joy each knows
the other feels deep unspoken content

I was right there sitting on our back deck watching the September sunset over the trees. Red sky at night was a sailor's delight and the colors were magnificent. Thank you for this poem.

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
