Gone forever is America's rumble seat
An open view while riding in a car
Wind flying through giddy kids' hair
Laughing and waving to everyone
An open seat in an upholstered trunk
Three or more crammed in with no belts
Bouncing at breath-taking speed
Just behind the enclosed driver
A rumble seat of the 20s and 30s
Built by all the car makers
Was motorcycle freedom without danger
In Winter colorful scarves trailing
From the choice seat of any season
Today these rare vehicles cost big bucks
Rumble seat riders seldom seen
At times ghost-riders still laugh and wave
