We Will Never Be Back

It makes a simple and true statement
Neither you nor I - or they will ever be back
Back from where you ask in frustration
The answer is also a simple one
Back from where we are this moment
Back to relive the events of today and yesterday
Back to make amends and try again
Back to live life better the second time around
Our worst trait is the lack of appreciation
Not realizing that tempus will fugit with bullet speed
Never to allow a second time around
Not accommodating your and my petty plans
Surely not waiting for that never-to-arrive tomorrow
A look at life right in the eye would scare hell out of us
And that might be just what we need right now
Since we are entitled to another run
Nah - it ain't gonna happen - we will never be back

comes around. Then again, Eliot wrote that time present and
time past are to be found in time future (and vice versa).
So let's hope that we can undo some things: like, for
