Leaf Dropping Time


So new in spring leaves flush out bare trees

By summer days woods are full and inviting

Like sun-warmed days they enfold to comfort

But in fall they begin departing one by one

In clusters spinning and dancing downward

For our rain deprived land showers of leaves

Mirroring human life by rollicking to the end

... and so many of them. Our garden is bounded by lines of mature oaks and our lawn becomes totally golden within moments of removing the last lot of newly-fallen leaves. I keep collections of them in my bathroom and talk to each as they fly through my open windows, as if bearers of strange secrets and messages... yeah, I know... The Men In White for me.... :)) Rollick on, Bill! xx
