Few of us understand farming and the farmers
It's one of those occupations with uncertain returns
so we shy away and never learn how to grow things
A big hurdle is knowing how edible crops grow
and then studying the weather and the cost of supplies
If anyone believes themselves to be good at gambling
they would be shocked at the fluctuating odds in
preparing planting and gathering a crop
Most of us would throw up our hands upon
learning about no guarantees from the weather
City residents and others may relax because
it is true that successful farmers are born to it
Three times a day we should offer thanks s for
our food and name the growers secondly
They do a lot of things differently down on the farm
And if they didn't our food might cost more than
a needed 30 acres which productive famers would like
Growing up in a household which grew, caught, or shot the majority of its foodstuffs I can appreciate this piece... Thank you, my friend, for the reminder.
A good amount of the beautiful old farms in NJ are up for sale, to build more housing developments and such...if too many are sold, how are we to grow fresh food...I cannot understand it, beyond it being greed...Ed
Yes, farming is a whole different world. Now the children of farmers seem to think city folk have greener grass and more to offer. But how can we with all the noise and smell of traffic, etc. Farmers are charming bunch. It is they who have the green thumbs.
