My life is nearing the end, like every day does with the going down of the sun
Diamonds encrust the waves,
Float freely and tease me
to grab a handful or, better yet to
find a child’s sand pail so I can
scoop up even more.
But the wind and tide and currents
are keeping them out of my reach
They keep moving from the peak
of one wave to another
and I can’t move that fast
I am frustrated and disappointed.
I look to the east and dusk is growing
with the blue sky changing to pale
purple
To the west is a gloriously brilliant
orange sun slipping towards the
skyline, saying it's farewell
to the day on a blue, soon to be
yellow, then green sky
As I scan the sky from east to west
It darkens slowly with a lilac hue then
becomes a deep soft purple covering
the heavens.
The waves have calmed and darken with
nightfall the diamonds are at rest,
unseen now.
In the stillness of this dusk I see my
life once filled with such energy and
activity, many small children
flitting around me
Friends and community, travelling the
world, lots of laughter, listening
and talking.
Now, near the end, I'm alone, near deaf
and blind
I dream of a heaven with a view of the
sea,diamond studded forever and the
warm sunshine
That welcomes me
