... Was just about to post what will probably be my final in my Childhood Creepies series, when this "other" little ditty appeared in a puff of smoke... what a relief! :)) The other was a bit risky... but will nonetheless probably appear sometime soon. Ah, happy days! Punk Party circa 1979 :))

Poem Artwork

HOW COME I’M NOT A GOTH GIRL?

How come I’m not a Goth Girl,
puncturing the neck;
swilling Bloody Mary’s
with tights that are a wreck?

How come I smile instead of scowl,
take tea instead of gin;
can’t wait to thrill to each new day –
not keep the darkness in?

Perhaps ‘cos Light has found me out,
put purpose in my step:
“Don’t lie there in that grave of yours –
you ain’t seen nuthin yet!”

Oh I think you're closer than you think, Kate. Goths are romantic to the the supreme. You have the beautiful capability of not taking yourself so seriously, that's all, and yes seeing the light as well as the darkness. Love it sis...Lin

like olivia newton john in Grease before her makeover, you might have been too wholesome to play a dark role in life, kate. Things grow in the light anyway, only s and the creepy like the dark. Liked this Dressing Dangerously, or Safely, as the case maybe. Sure, we all would like to be other people from time time.

You got me on this one, first thang came to mind, Jessica Lange "The Goth Queen" in Shakespeares famous Titus Andronicus hehe.
Basically you pulled back the curtains in a dark room and let the sun in with this entertaining and clever write.

Well we were attacked by the Goths and Vandels all them years back.
So it could be in our blood.

But nowadays it's just a fashion statement in the main.

Perhaps ‘cos Light has found me out,
put purpose in my step:

Therein lies the answer..... You jolly ole thang...

Love this, as a Goth Girl at heart, it makes me smile. The best part about being Catholic and being Goth is that the symbols are all the same, so no need for change:) I think some people totally misunderstand Goth and act like freaks thinking Goths worship the devil or something, when, as I mentioned, it is much closer to religion than the ignorant think. Besides, the music is fun, and what girl doesn't like to get dressed up? People often think of the punky ripped fishnet Goths, but I have always been the black velvet, corsets, sweeping gown, romantic tyoe. I love that you are open-minded and maybe a great humorous poem like this will make others stop judging Goths. Love the photo:) Oh- there is a great song by John Wesley Harding called "Goth Girl." If you get a chance, take a listen, one of my faves. Be well- Michelle xxxxx
