I finally figured out why id and ego are always arguing.
When I did, I figured out why superego skipped town.
Superego was tired of always having to balance the others
because neither one of them listened to anything said
or paid any kind of attention to each the other
or had enough sense in their lives to do anything else.
Just plowed away undeterred, unaffected within themselves
selfishly ignoring all other activity that required attention
like a manic fiend who only recognizes its own excrement
surrounded by mirrors, blind in one eye, can’t see out of the other
treating themselves with shadows, scared at and of the smallest light
that might bring change to an otherwise empty scene
determinedly bent on nothing being nothing while everything else disappears
until just an id and an ego can flail their own existence
erratically planned to be only as is, nothing else forever after and beyond.
I finally figured out why superego left town without any warning
leaving memos on post it notes as a reminder that it exists
hoping one day something other than id and ego would find them,
heed the information and cleverly figure out how to stop what's unnecessary.
Id and ego had engraved themselves into a circle to run full force in non stop
and as the years progressed the rut only grew deeper
as they played pin the ears on the elephant that no one else ever saw
standing right there in the room of their own imaginations
to hinder, to prevent, without any consequence, their perpetual nonsense
crying wolf whenever wanted, at the first sight of possibility
that would end their domination against common sense,
who you would’ve thought had the most to say about it anyway
especially in its own defense, but when it didn’t,
or couldn’t, for whatever one might believe reason or reasonable
superego decided enough was enough, packed its own suitcase,
dusted off its shoes and walked right out the front door
never to be seen again anywhere near id or ego.
I hear it became a transient worker among poets and painters
and writers and hobbyists still genuinely interested in the humanity of it all
looking for a forever home where as to invite families for dinners
and good friends to impromptu parties
where adequate ideas are still said to exist,
patiently waiting for sane passage from possible to accomplished.
