When this poem was written, I was in a much better, happier place in my life. I was sitting idle one day and this little poem just came to me after I thought about what I would get my two granddaughters for Christmas. They wanted everything and they usually got it! So for the fun of it this is what I came up with!
Twas the Month after Christmas
Twas the month after Christmas, and the bills were now due.
Everyday more and more, my anxiety grew.
As I pulled back my sheets and turned down my bed,
The thought of the money I’d spent, raced through my head.
I had maxed out my credit cards, and spent all my cash.
Everything was depleted, including my stash.
It suddenly hit me: what on earth have I done?
I ran to the cupboard, but food there was none.
I opened the fridge, but to my despair,
The only thing in there was a lot of cold air.
I had nothing to eat and my money was nil.
I got weak in the knees and became suddenly ill.
My heart beat was rapid but my breathing was slack.
I knew I was having a panic attack.
I looked around frantically for a brown paper bag,
But gift boxes and wrapping paper was all that I had.
I began to turn blue and became really scared.
I started to pray that my life would be spared.
If you save me oh Lord I promise you this.
Next year will be different I will not be remiss.
I suddenly felt better and was able to breathe.
He had heard my prayer and to it took heed.
So next year as I promised the Lord I would do,
I will be much more frugal to avoid turning blue.
