Bitter gray was the color of the December sky

when the wind blew cold from the North

the tree branches could only sigh

Bitter gray the ocean’s froth churned by the sea

each crest an angry bitter frown

a legacy of all that was you and me

Bitter gray are the snowflakes falling to the ground

vague little memories come calling

now that you are no more around

Bitter gray the seagull’s lonely cawing song

joining me in sympathy on my lonely pier

he knows there’s something wrong

Bitter gray is my beard from the tears I wept

so many times because of you

and all the hours I never slept

Bitter gray is the broken heart of sorrow

the very color of sad defined

when the gray hides all tomorrow

Bitter gray will be the final resting place

a broken heart will be at peace

all sorrow gone without a trace…
