Let The Voice of The Poet’s Rise

By: Fee

Shall the righteous decide who the righteous are

As they dictate to me who is to be our God of choice

Will the censures dictate to me what I can write?

How much longer before they will steal my very voice?

Politicians and bureaucratic run red tape prisons

As ratings and censures seem to rule this way

Ghosts of Shakespeare, Poe, Keats and many more

Would shake their heads in shame this day

Is free speech all but token words once wrote

In some yellowed document’s history page

Does religion have the right to erase the truth?

Will we allow our libraries soon to burn in rage

The word, the word…the ageless voice of time

Let they that judge step forward, if they be so bold

Nay you cloak yorself in darkness, no sun on thee shine

Strong is the bard heart’s who knows and stands his ground

His soul's warmth shall fend off the cold

Well said, Fee! As poets, as writers, as artists, we owe allegiance to our own best ideals (as we have them) and we owe a debt to posterity to press those ideals ever forward as long as we have readers, listeners, viewers, and as long as we have breath. For there is only one way to censor us, really ...

Hundreds of years ago, during the Dark Ages, it was the Bard who carried new ideas and new ideals from town to town, and all of us can claim the Bard as our soul-ancestor -- the guiding torch for what we should try to be and do today ... and tomorrow.

Let the sun shine in, and Let The Voice Of The Poets Rise!

Ted

I raised my hand for Ron to stay with us and I feel the same way most of us do I know. Why is it that a few can't figure out how to just not open something or close it when they don't like something. Why does this world think that it's their choice what we say. I hope he doesn't let them stop him. Lady J

Fee,
I think it's possible to read a poem and remain true to one's religion. Just reading something does not change one's faith. On another site, I came across many 'poems' I considered to be outright trash. Those poems did not change me; I still believe what I believe. In fact, it shows character to be able to read something that may be outside your normal perimeters. Maybe if we find something to be offensive, it's the perfect time to comment solely on the writing ability instead of its nature? I like the strength of your voice in this poem. Powerful and inspiring! Love and Hugs~

I thank you all for your insightful reviews on this poem and hope that perhaps in future all those who read a poem, read it with the understanding that they are not under any great obligation to read. If they do not like the content fo a particular read they are free to move on and accept that we are all free to express ourselves as we see fit within reason.
Thank you all for the continued support you have given me.
Hugs

I havent read ROn's write, but I will get to it now you've alerted me to this... You remember that play that Shakespeare wrote, ( name eldudes me for the moment ah typical) anyway it was not one of his more accepted writes, was of the Goth Queen, basically he was making a point through some gory stuff about the equality of mankind, B&W.. You'll know the one..
Life is like that today, we are graded and sorted to suit the Ayran constitution, which is painfully alive and well and continues it's ethnic cleansing of all the unclean in society, including those who write, or speak up for the rights of those persecuted!!
Let the voice of the Poets Rise..YEH, LOUD and LONG!!
Least if they knuckle us underfoot, we go down fighting, and with any luck a quill gets imbedded in an Aryan backside LOL
Hgs to yah FEE, and Congrats, off to review that too

Fee,
Very powerful poem. However, I have always had the tendency to feel that speech is never free. There always seems to be a price with every piece of spoken word. Whether it be a painful price for the lack of controlling your tongue in an angry moment or even a price that comes with great rewards for the "apples of gold and silver carvings" for a word spoken at the right time for it. Either way, even the great patriarch Abraham from the bible asked permission to speak to God. In conclusion, I believe that speech is a priviledge and should be used very carefully and wisely lest we should be summoned to pay a price we can't afford. I'm sorry, I can't help myself. I am very opinionated. But, I love your work.:)

Critics are everywhere and as far as how I perceive them, I take their comments for what they are. If they make a good point, I may change whatever it is they feel should be (none of us are perfect and I'm all for learning new things to better my writing) but if the criticism is hinging upon a personal attack or nonsense, I ignore it, walk away from the computer, roll my eyes, laugh, and get back to doing what I do. The way I look at it, I have a few critics, so I must be doing something right! ;-)

Nice write, Fee.

Critics are those that can't do anything but that reserve for themselves the right to tell us how to do it.
Yes Fee, let the voice of the poets rise telling them righteous people to shut up ! ! !

It is so sad that our society requires ratings on written, audio and visual works. I think our choices are ours and those of parents. If you don't like what you view and read - don't. When an honest mistake is made - get it fixed, don't 'kill' the person. He who is without blemish, let him/her cast the first stone.

God bless you. Kathy

Felix About your poem: "Let The Voice of The Poet’s Rise", I share the Susan Sonnen's quote, which says:
"I don't create poetry, I create myself, for me my poems are a way to me. ~Edith Södergran" I would add: no one in the world can stop the word for emeging and from breaking any fence. We are our own judges and we are equipped with a conscience to guide us.Love Emile

Fee,

As a Christian, I've come to the conclusion that no one is more righteous than another. Who am I to judge? Am I perfect? Far from it - never have been, never will be. I sin *gasp!* - forgiven by Grace, that's all. I try to treat people the way I want to be treated. Ya know?

I don't care what someone writes, as long as they write. I'm not reading religious poetry, political poetry, mainstream poetry, etc., I'm reading POETRY. That's all it should be.

Excellent write to judge not lest ye be judged - reminded of a line from "Bambi" - "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." :)

((((HUGS)))) and love, and KEEP WRITING, Karla. :)

AMEN all those righteous people should read about what happens to those who judge others. More time praying, less time judging might help. Do you realize that most of the great poets of the past would not be accepted on most poetry boards and their work would be hidden away on back pages because it was considered not fit or productive to go no the main pages of a board. Those very ones who want to censor others would squeal the loudest if they couldn't have free speech to propogate their religious views and moralizing sermons. Yes I'm mad. Some people need to get a life and stop trying to police the lives and art of others!
