The notion of the Highwayman story has always had such a romantic connontation to me but then again that is a romantic's view.

Spirit of the Moor

By: Fee

meet me where the river wanders

‘neath the full moon o’er the moor

in the highlands I’ll be waiting

my heart pines for you once more

we’ll ride the world together

I’ll give up my robbing ways

settle down and raise some wee ones

Live peaceful till our final days

we’ll make love upon the heather

with the scent of clover in the air

aye, ‘tis a bonny lass you are my love

with emerald eyes and golden hair

I was but a lonesome highwayman

who’s held your promise in my heart

this roaming rover of the King’s forest

meet me tonight so my life can start

so he waited for her ‘neath a full moon

Rose in hand and stead tied to a tree

he never knew the note was intercepted

like a lion he fights to remain free

she never got her lover’s message

high Sheriff’s men led by traitorous swine

surrounded him and commanded he surrender

it was time for him to pay for his great crime

but to the death he fought and died

where the river wanders through the moor

now on full moon nights a lady walks

with her love’s spirit on the shore

I love the flow of this piece, Fee. It has a magical feel, and you bring these characters to life with haunting imagery. Tragic romance and eerie legend! Love and Hugs,

What a truly touching tale - but I can see her pining for him yet, along that trail with only the light from the moon reflecting on the sea shine her path of sorrow.

Well said - dear Fee, as always much enjoyed.

Photograph full of suspense! A lone spirit roams the moor in search of her love, sounds like a scene out of "Wuthering Heights", passionately written...

Be always safe,
Karen

I have been in the moors at night but had other things on my mind as we were doing maneuvers. Great poem and shows how treachery leads to destruction.

Whoa!! Excellent Picture! I see a girl at the end if the path (or is that the begining since she is facing us?) The tree to the left looks like a haunter Person of sorts (gremlin person like)or his arms reaching for her perhaps?

Very intriguing and boldly told dear Fee. I could feel myself softly walking through the mist. Great story of love found and lost tragically. Cheers, Deborah
