My Dad was a member of the PEI Highlanders which were part of the Black Watch Regiment, and later amalgamated with the West Novas before fighting up through Italy, France and eventually liberating Holland. I am and will always be proud of him...

The Ladies From Hell

By: Fee

Aye…

twas a sight to see and hear

the haunting skirl of the pipes

a call announced the arrival

of men called the ladies from hell

Aye…

The enemy would tuck tail

And run from the demon’s cries

when the kilts were hiked

and deadly rifle hammers fell

Aye…

They say they had no fear

at least fear was never shown

these men of our Black Watch

who’s deeds are whispered still

Aye…

They were soldiers one and all

men of Canada’s finest youth

crossed the mountains and the seas

for freedom’s call they had to kill

Aye…

I’m the proud son of one of them

Who fought for God, King and country

He charged beneath the tartan plaid banner

So that the rest of us could live free

What I like about this poem is...everything! You educate, you bring us back for a glimpse, you pull us in with word choice, and you grasp our emotions. A chilling tribute, where we feel the swell of pride in the last verse. You are very gifted, Fee! Love and Hugs,
Sheila

I love this writing/work Fee! Something about your work that hits a manly note with me; yet is soft within...tender and true. Being an American means the same to me...I love and cherish those who fought for me and mine.. Sometimes, we have a face to go with the ghost! Keep writing like this...it's a gift. lindalaw

Aye, mighty good poetry here Fee, I love the Scottish flavor of this one..My children are descendants of Robert the Bruce.. on my ex husband's side, so my children are half breeds, half full Scottish and half full Italian. they are very proud of their Scottish heritage as well as the Italian heritage..
Much peace, love, and light,

Fee,

I salute your brave father, as well as the son, who carried on in his tradition - well done. A beautiful write honoring his service - hauntingly played "Amazing Grace" in verse - as you know, I am the daughter/sister/cousin/niece of Veterans (the Vidra Honor Guard), as well as a Veteran, myself. Strong military heritage in both our families - brothers in arms, as it were. :)

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I know only too well Fee just how proud you are of your Dad and always will be. The last two lines sum it up for us. He charged beneath the tartan plaid banner, so that the rest of us could live free. Thank you for a wonderful write that has him smiling from ear to ear as he looks down on your words and know how proud you are.

Love ya face Cuz XOXOXO, Rose
