For thosse who still feel the call of the open road but for whatever reason it is closed to them.

Poem Artwork

The Road Ahead, the Road Behind

Wind screaming onward, ever onward

The skies change your view of life

The tires sing a song of freedom

And the open road becomes your wife

No time clock mounted on a wall

No necktie shackle round your throat

Just a carpet of tar and a ribbon of white

That’s what their world’s all about

Blue lips, raccoon eyes and cramps

Worn proudly like medals on a chest

For riders of the chrome and steal horse

Who all love this life the best

So wave a hand and smile a greeting

When you see them passing on a run

Salute the road ahead and the one behind

At the setting of each sun…

Delightful feel of freedom...and one heckuva read, Fee! Let all know to take those roads while they can, 'cause all too soon they'll hit that detour.

Felix, your ode to the open road and cycling in particular is a sentimental gem for many -- I am immediately reminded of, "The Tail of The Dragon", in western N.C. -- a twisting turning piece of tarmac beauty and excitement -- enjoyed this one very much -- peace and love Jon Michael

WOW, HD Fat Boy and any empty road, this poem go me thinking about those days when I was young and "the life ahead and the life behind" was such a fun. Now those days, the one behind, are getting longer and yet, riding that HD to nowhere in particular seems such a fun...

Perhaps because I do not drive I have never felt this urge to just find a road and travel along.. I think I am more comfortable letting my imagination do the exploring...))
Loved the piece...

I haven't ridden in many years, but this gives me the thought to do so again, though to be honest, I like the privacy & comfort of driving my Jeep, plenty of heat, a/c & out of the weather...and I can take Rufuz with me easier...Ed & Rufuz (w00f)

Salute the road ahead, and the one behind. Well penned, my friend. There was a time I never wanted to be home, and now, there are few places I would rather be.

I love the freedom that you have expressed in this poem to move forward, leaving the past behind. I like how you used this as a metaphor, as in life, one is always free to move forward.

Great job with this one, Fee!!!
