Lovers often don't get to chose where and when they can make love and although this started out to be a Halloween write this is where it led me...go figure.

Love In The Shadows Of Death

By: Fee

The crackle of leafs like the dried parchment of old skin, dry, red, blotched yet to lifeless to even succumb to rot

The screech of wind through the death gray stone of stones moldy ‘neath the tortured trees of death

The smell of damp, dank earth, of freshly turned grave, like the putrefied meat of dead animals picked to pieces

The sickeningly creepy touch of a spider web full across ones face, and the unmistakable feel of crawling on skin

The silhouettes that are undefined, spirits that seem to mate with those of night birds and black cats to raise hairs

The demonic cackle of far off laughter as if being belched up from the bowels of the foulest of foul

The candles flicker, not the romance in a jar candles but the old wax smell of holy candles burned to stubs

The unending night of fear, where sphincters pucker, teeth are gnawed and the stench of cold sweat is unbearable

Still our lips meet in the corridors of markers where we know it is save for us to walk, still we bare our bodies to the crackle of the leaves of our make do bed, still our voices shriek in the desires of the flesh, still I impale you like the death stake driven through the undead’s heart, still we stir the earth and maybe disturb the spirits until satisfied we sleep the sleep of the death …safe surrounded by those who cannot tell…

I think that the image you use to go along with the piece is very fitting. The piece itself is a bit dark. It is filled with emotion and a lot of descriptive imagery that we can visualize. You paint quite a picture with your words. I truly enjoyed the read. Thanks for sharing and keep on writing.

All the best,
lena

Such an eerie poetic tale for Halloween, Fee! A bit chilling, even in daylight; but very imaginative :o)

I agree with Jude and Kate. This is a very good Halloween poem, and making out in a graveyard is just sooooooooooo .... uhm .... creepy it sparks the imagination of things that were and can and will be again. You wrote this with heart and soul and it touches the reader and makes one think. Thank you for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie.

well, reading this in such a gloomy atmosphere prevalent in Dorset today, it could well be Halloween! But love's fire seems oblivious of its sorroundings, largely... Romeo and Juliet knew that! I like this departure of style for you, Felix, showing you can shape prose as well as the lyric line. It very much takes me back to the Guns and Roses of my own recent War In Spring as it seems to deal with a similar setting and emotional terrain, but in an altogether different way. Love is a death of sorts anyways... Great stuff! :)) xx

Very unusual of you, but you are giving the shivers to our damsels.

Very imaginative tale of sex amongst the dead who, as you say, tell no tales.
