Never

 

They never got to walk on the beach

or stroll hand in hand beneath a setting sun

They never lay nude on the Atlantic dunes

Feeling the last warmth of the summer sun

 

They never got to swim and frolic naked

Nor hug afterwards to ward off the icy chill

They never kissed beneath the stars and moon

Now it seems so sad they never will

 

They never danced to a slow song in a cabin

Sipping wine in front of a fire soft aglow

They never shared breakfast in a sated bed

But how were they to truly know

 

Today they buried him up on the barren bluff

Where the seagulls squawk and make their nest

She said her tender goodbye one last time

As they gently laid his soul to rest…

There are no guarantees in life and I was touched by the sadness of the poem. But I was left with what happened to him to cause his death. Emotively moving. Liz

NEVER to feel the love for another is so very sad and final. Sometimes tomorrow NEVER comes, that is why we have to live for today. Peace,love, and happiness to you my friend. :)

The Japanese have a word for it, sayonara, that final goodbye, that final "it never happened," as a seagull scornful squawk sounds like a malevolent cackling from a witch over those dunes...

Strong emotions of two lovers that were cut short. We never know what the tomorrows will bring, but we do have all the todays. Live each day as if it were the last and grasp every tick of the clock as the treasure it truly is...

Never, 'scuse my French, is a bloody long time. If waiting seems interminable, then the never you talk of here is inexpressibly longer. This teaches us to never give up, to travel hopefully BUT always to make the most of each moment, knowing that tomorrow may never come. This makes me inexpressibly sad, but admirably fulfills the Kafka statement that "poetry should be like a pick-axe taken to the frozen areas of the heart" (totally paraphrased, but something like it!). This freezes and melts me in equal measure, Felix, bless you. Stark and powerful as always, xx
