Mists of Time
On the mists of time she kneeled
Praying for the minutes to pass
The ravens kept a vigil with her
Wild flowers scented morning grass
Her beau had donned the khaki
To fight for the Kings Brigade
A 303 rifle replaced his plow share
Was told there was a price to be paid
She cried the day he shipped out
His chest puffed out with pride
The world was at war for freedom
She had to hide how much she cried
Days, weeks, then months went by
Till they all turned into years
She read all his letters one by one
Returned hers signed with tears
It was in the third year she got the word
His father came on her to call
With tears in his eyes and heavy heart
He said my son in battle had to fall
She never got to say goodbye to him
Only a faded picture and his memory
She kneels lost in the mist of time
Her ravens there to keep her company…
