Miss Titanic's Rest

When the ship they called unsinkable sank, Halifax, Nova Scotia was the closest landfall for rescuers. To this day the graves are still kept priistine and relatives and visitors come to pay their respects. The actual grave markers were originally supposed to be of uniform size but as we all know money goes a long way even in death so some are larger than others. The graves and their markers are laid out in the shape of a ships bow. Hope you enjoy my take on the Titanic's demise.

Miss Titanic’s Rest

Felix L. Perry

They found the broken young ladies’ body

She lay resting on King Neptune’s breast

Where she’d planned to spent her eternity

With her spirits in quiet eternal rest

The sunken ship they said was unsinkable

Some claim a mass murderer of her day

Hit that iceberg like a suicide’s bullet

While the band played the sad night away

Three graveyards they filled in Halifax

With the bodies of all those she took

Man, woman and child markers of granite

Just another page in a Maritime’s book

They say technology discovered her purpose

Investigated the ghosts of her missing past

Myself I say she should have been left alone

Miss Titanic nay never her shadow to cast…

Felix, the events that stand out in the history of man are more often than not, tragic events. Titanic will doubtless be recalled by mankind as long as there are ways to communicate her sad, incomplete voyage. All of the joy of her passengers as they boarded. The accolades as the finest ship afloat, dashed by nature's grip. A ship that could not sink. Titanic stays fresh in my mind for all of the humanity lost. And it was the year of my father's birth. You have given a mighty poetic view of the ship, the time, the memories of those lost. May love, peace and joy find you this day my friend. Jon Michael

I remember you telling me a bit about this when I wrote about her. It was such a tragic thing; it inspires so many. Too bad we haven't learned much since then. Great poem!

A really good write about a sad subject & I agree, leave the Titanic alone as with all ships that have gone down with many aboard...its almost like digging the dead back up when they mess with those downed ships...Ed

This is an excellent recollection of what happened that dreadful night. Such a sad story that will never be forgotten. I didn't know about the graves in Halifax, Novia Scotia. This was very good Fee!

Fee,

I love the way you told this tale! The beautiful metaphoric phrases, and the true story told with in them. It was indeed a tragedy, and showed Man's smugness at "unsinkable". Right.
