Poem Artwork

night shifts

the song of love’s lost mistress is sorrow

just a longing of what should have been

the mists swirl ‘round eternal yearning

desire’s longing still glows from within

the wee firefly’s light is always the strongest

in shadows where memories are kept

his voice in the whippoorwill entices

where lantern flickering silhouettes have wept

her teardrops blend with the muddy river

those teardrops that just can’t find a cure

she misses the arms of his offered daydream

since he died on that far away shore

...some can mourn forever, caught up in love's memories...but who here alive can measure its depths beyond the physical? Love has no boundaries, where tears might seem smudged with mud, they might actually be smearing all borderlines for Love's ultimate release. . . where nothing can stand in its way any longer. . .

Inspiring work, Fee~

It reads like a dirge, Felix and the last stanza I think could very well paraphrase as a metaphorical "death"...not a tagged-on-the-toe morgue expiration...perhaps references to a rendezvous on the night shift on the docks...good time for Otis Redding...Be well.

Love,
Sage
