I Thought I’d Said Goodbye
By: Fee
Under a full moon and a heavy fog, I’d buried her
Buried her deep along with my bitter hurt
In the old, long-forgotten cemetery in the woods
Where no ears heard the scrape of shovel on dirt
You see, I came back early to surprize her
The surprize that night was all fell on me
Expecting warm embraces and desire, instead
Anger turned to rage at the sight I didn’t want to see
Red roses on the coffee, table I knew I didn’t send
An empty wine bottle and her negligee I did find
Two tell-tale glasses in the sink, one was lipstick stained
My last question answered in the note he left behind
I could hear her in the shower as I read her lover’s note
The knife I held allowed her just one feral scream
As I plunged it through her breast again and again
I thought would end this fateful dream
So that brings you up to date to what occurred
Up to this moment amongst the headstones
I can’t lie
But…when I patted down the last shovel of dirt
When her wedding ringed hand made an appearance
I screamed and screamed you see…I thought I’d said goodbye!
That is one terrible nightmare that you have portrayed. Not only finding your love in an affair, but killing her instead of forgiving her. Of course, to find that revenge also seeks revenge in a never-ending cycle that can't be buried like all ill deeds.
A lesson we all need to learn.
