Poem Artwork

There he sat away from all the passer bys
tired of the mocking and abhorrent looks he would get
He no longer searches for scraps to sustain himself.
He lays on the cold pavement imagining being in a hospital bed
with tubes and wires creating false life readings.

Laughing to himself at the analogy of it all
the body continues but with nothing inside
he wonders when the body will finally join with the spirit,
Thus ending the everlasting quiet
I guess that’s too much to hope for.

So he lingers looking through his rusted and dented Gumby lunchbox
the time capsule if you will,
where memories are attached to mementos
Rocks, various crystals and cards with writing from long ago,
pictures portraying perfection in every detail,
and a small statue he was not able to gift,

The noise of the street distracts him
The trucks driving by calling him forth to intersect
with their path seduce him

Just one leap, that all that’s needed

What?
OMG you’re here again
What was I doing?

His heart raced and filled with love as it does
whenever his thoughts drift to faraway
he wanted to tell her that with everything that has left him
His love for Her was the only constant, the only spark,
that allowed another day to visit him.
He wanted to jump up and hold her to him
feeling life once more.

He was diseased and rotting and she was his only cure
he wanted to say it and more but instead
He said
Oh nothing just studying the ebb and flow of forward movement
Yes that’s it, nothing more

Why am I still here?

Um! Its where I live now
well! Here and in the past

Her gaze drifted to him
and the dreams of seeing her eyes again
were close to being a reality.
his heart pounded with the thrill of it

Her eyes met his
But instead of love beaming through
It was the worst he could imagine
it was pity and made him shrink away

I have to start living?
I need to move on?

I have moved on I have gone from 53rd street to 57th

I know you weren’t kidding

Its just that I still L

She was gone again

A horn sounded with
the trucks driving by calling him forth to intersect their path
