I am the silent enemy
I attack mostly the young
Yes youth is my finest prey

I slink sliver and wait.
I am with them when they are born
I watch as they sit, crawl, walk then run.
I love to watch the family pride,
grow with each step they take.

Knowing my time is coming soon.
Ha!! Helpless are they to stop my attack.
I am very clever indeed.
I start very slowly and progress the same.

I am the snake in their Eden.
Like the great snake I start to constrict.
Slowly very slowly I squeeze.
First they run then walk then crawl.

I keep going until they can do nothing at all.
I watch as other children pick on them
For being slower than they
I love watching them in their wheelchair
As they watch the kids play.

Just think as time goes by.
They won’t be able to feed themselves.
Or even go to the bathroom.
Can you imagine they can’t even turn over in bed.

And I am still here watching.
Watching the tears of family
Watching the helplessness of them.
The torment I cause.

Oh my job is so great
Doctors can’t stop me.
They don’t have a clue
My fate is to do as I please.

There is a sad part to my story.
You see sometimes I get carried away
And my victims get worse and worse.
And then they cease to be my prey.

Now I have to hunt all over again.
Who knows maybe I’m coming for you.

I am Muscular Dystrophy.
I am here to stay.
I challenge you to fight me.
