We Sang and Howled All Night

….they wrote the tunes with Outlaw verse….

I sat beside the Rattlesnake’s den
And stared him in the eyes
I leapt from the top of the highest cliff
To fly up there where the Raven flies
I walked into the Grizzly Bear brush
Armed only with my life
I joined up with a pack of Timber Wolves
We sang and howled all night

Upland boreal and deciduous
His personality shows sign of
Elk, packs the mentality of Wolf
And the solitary meanderings of Moose
Where He sits atop with the high bush cranberry
Shapeshifter of Manitoba Escarpment, He took on a
First Nations Identity, his middle finger flipped
Bird atop the totem pole a salute to a peaceful heathen

Why would a Noble Redman
Jig around by the side of the road?
For the turds and trinkets that the tourists toss?
When they’d rather be feeding him a double-ought load?
Spends all of his time, dance for nickels and dimes
In his tattered Tandy leather and lace
Dance the minuet in the parking lot
I will dance beneath Old Red Man’s face

Tipi smoke the pipe belching similitude
Clouds fostering cotton memories He picked
Shape changing like White Buffalo Calf Woman
Was in his ear monitor when he played guitar
Directing his vocal to the Eagles who carried the note far
Peaceful Easy Feeling backpacking resurrection and heirloom compass
Gave him direction; those Elk buttons in his Medicine Bow buckskin Pouch His spirit Runes They wrote the tunes in pine pitch with outlaw verse

Call me a half-breed, if that’s what you need
So I can laugh in your piggy-eyed face
I am a Magic Mystic Michif Man
Metis MasterBlaster, address Outer Space
Yup, I gladly dwell out there in La-La Land
While you don’t know where in Hell you are
But if you’re ever in need of a meaningful job
“Baby you can drive my (injun) car”!

Yup, I’m a’gonna be a star!

Backpacking the resurrection can make one tired especially when trying to use an heirloom compass. It can put you in la-la land in a hurry, with Ringo keeping time, and Henley doing his laundry.

Peace,
Dayvid

I see more Duke than Sweetwater, so I have to hand it to you for your encouragement, because Duke would like to let it hang out more than he sometimes does. I know you had a part in helping him do it this time.

Sage...This is the first poem I've ever seen you write that has a definite structure and rhyme scheme. Are you feeling O.K.???
