Days ago, a little past midnight, before switching off my PC, I closed my eyes listening music, to feel calm, to make me in the mood for bed and sleep, when the track with Johan Sebastian Bach “Siciliano” hit my heart like a brutal knife made of ice and I felt tears in my eyes writing the poem below…
In the image inside my head suddenly I was there, in an unknown graveyard as the day was dying out, heavy and gray clouds and a wet mist in the air, I felt cold outside and inside standing in front of that new tomb with a small marble head piece telling me that under the dirt and the flowers was the unknown love that I wished so much…and that I never had…
After she left…nothing was the same,
a little piece of marble, she was gone,
engraved by strange hands her name,
tell it to everyone in that churchyard.
The flowers in those wreaths will die,
the autumn wind will forceful come,
to take away those petals that are dry,
but wouldn’t take my pain, it will not.
Asked to leave the cemetery enclosure,
by the Caretaker saying that I should go,
he didn’t cared for tears running down,
or that after I went she will be all alone.
In the street I saw lovers holding hands,
only if they knew how much it is lost
when love ones come from you apart
and nobody is there with a little comfort.
After she left, nothing more was there,
just the edge of the abyss and the call,
and so my feet walked, urged by pain,
to end it all, far below, on those rocks.
Hell most be not to have been loved
or learned how to love someone…
Dear Georg,
You have shared with us a very emotional and poignant picture of the prospect that all long-term lovers fear--including myself--when we acknowledge the fact that by death, one of us will remain all alone.
Yet in a lyrical twist of viewpoint, you have shared with us the helpless feeling of not wanting our departed to be left alone without our presence and love, certainly a unique perspective.
But many of us take solace in knowing that the departed--being now in the perfection of God's presence--will not feel the sting of absence of an earthly lover but will simply wait patiently for their heavenly reunion.
It is in the promise of the departed waiting at Heaven's Door that strengthens the soul of the remaining partner in knowing that their separation is but a slight moment in God's overall plan for each of us, acknowledging that the gift of life and love is precious beyond description.
"If I go, she will be all alone" is a deep and powerful sharing that stirs us all to truly value every present moment of life.

How sad, yet reminiscent of the longing within your heart that goes unfulfilled. When one passes into the next realm there never is any turning back and loved ones are left to mourn, that is unless you are the last.....

I feel the hurt, going through the hurt, don't have speakers so cannot listen to the music. But I know the hurt is there and is going to stay around too. I like to visit my hubby's grave as much as I can and to say goodbye over and over again. It comforts me somewhat.
Georg, listening to the music stirred up such tender passionate feelings and while reading your poem, I could feel your energy and your intensity of passionate longing. Yes, one must have loved to know how deeply this can hurt...Remarkable poetry my dear friend.
