On Wings of the Egret

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

Poem Artwork
Why should I fall trodden
In deserts of sorrow
Or walk in the shadows
Of tenebrous lies
Lest ere should I wait
For sweet sudden showers
To moisten the wings
Of the Egrets reply
.
For long would I ponder
Where oft life had whispered
With springs sweet sufficing
Or summers fond brooding
In autumns capitulations
To winters long slumbers
There would I travel
On wings of the Egret
.
Why long should I linger
In moments swift passing
When laughters brief banquet
Would lessen lifes burdens
On parchment with pens
In memories sweet stains
There would I sojourn
On wings of the Egret
.

I can relate, as before my heart surgery, I biked 15 miles a day and passed a small lake on the bike path. There was a day when an Oregon Great Egret was lounging about at lakes edge. Had to stop, as such sightings are extremely rare in this part of the state. Majestic birds. Wishing you a rich, imaginative 2018. Imagination may be the only solution to maintain sanity with this crazy state of the union.

Egrets are beautiful birds, even more so than swans, in my opinion. Another wonderful write by the master; Happy New Year to you and yours...-e-

You picked a fine symbol of both strength and beauty in the Egret.
They visit my backyard often and roam in regal silence. Well penned, as usual.
