Listening Intently to Silence...

An honest day of soul-searching and 'poetisophical brooding' in the High Anza Borrego Desert. Poetiprose…

Poem Artwork
As I see it:

I’ve not come
this far reinventing
my revelations, acceding
to trendy-opinion or notion,
appeasing detractors to gain
a more secure foothold,
favorable position -
attention -
power -
losing sight of
my calling for popularity,
to promote myself feverishly,
to become a product on a
merchant’s shelve, or
a creative-writer
with bestselling books,
coveted pushcart awards,
appearances in the New Yorker,
or to whitewash some awful life failure,
striving at the expense of all else reasonable,
as if being successful somehow polishes the struggles
we all abide, or the arrant longings to discover
something we’ve never known…
.
Can I admit to (past)
seasons of indiscretion,
considering the needs of
others less important than mine,
my less than honorable thoughts,
foolish pursuits, and, at times,
a f*** you attitude leading
to dead-ends]
cul-de-sacs, and alleyways
piled high with the rubbish
of all good intentions…
Can I do this without
Subjecting myself
To ridicule?
(Probably not)
because we live in
a world of ego-centric
strivers imprisoned by how
they are seen by those who sit
enthroned behind self-important masks;
you know…. The ones who
are first to vilify when they see
faults or blemishes in another’s efforts….
.
Today I was alone, on a
high precipice, overlooking
the Anza Borrego desert, not
watching anything really, just
listening intently to silence,
mulling originality,
artistic degradation,
jaded poetic insights,
the chronically opinionated,
and those shimmering waves
of heat rising from the desert floor,
ever mindful of my place on a
planet plummeting into darkness
where evil terrors and sickness, the
threat of nuclear confrontation
political insanity
cartoon autocrats
extremist wickedness
a transgender deception
(their pronoun chaos)
artificial intelligence
social-engineering
transhumanism
blasphemy
arrogance
hatred
greed
lust
id
are all commonplace,
.
For hours
I mulled
my short-comings ,
my victories and failures,
and all aesthetic endeavor
in the tangled world-of-words,
wondering if dear enduring Noah
had owned a computer, how he would
have used it to build the Ark more efficiently.
Would he have e-mailed the animals with
an invitation to a dance at the newest
most revolutionary sea-going
vessel ever built?
Or would he
have disconnected it,
and relied upon another source;
a TRUE source who would never leave
or forsake those who put their trust in Him…
.
There’s a clear line in the sand now.
Can you see it?
If so… take a side
And prepare yourselves.
Everything is about to change.

SOME TIMES WE SEARCH FOR WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE AND LISTEN TO HEAR WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW. THE SIMPLICITY OF CONTENTMENT IS TOO SIMPLE FOR SOME. BUT THE FACT REMAINS...GOD IS. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

This poem is a fresh break from all the artificiality and cookie-cut superficiality's of today's hunger to fit in, to wherever it is safe regardless of consequence. Made me really sit and do some soul searching of my own. Thanks, Needed this one. Always keep writing.

"a f*** you attitude leading
to dead-ends]
cul-de-sacs, and alleyways
piled high with the rubbish
of all good intentions…"

I thought these lines stood out within the poems structure, that is until I found myself reading these last five lines . . .

There’s a clear line in the sand now.
Can you see it?
If so… take a side
And prepare yourselves.
Everything is about to change.

"listening intently to silence" isn't that how every redress thought ever begins. I have enjoyed your poem, The scourging of a soul can be such a powerful entreaty for the heart. Loved it, Richard,

Powerful, rlc ... and even though we must choose sides, I hope with clenched fists that we who know how will keep our efforts focused on some subtrufuge of cooperation, care, of survival. Best. Jan

A frank, bitter, insightful reflection on the state of the world and the state of ourselves in a world that seemingly has lost its direction. An amazing exploration into the inner sanctum of a mind.

Prophetic and contemporary. The structure of this piece is intriguing as the crescendo and diminuendo of the sentence lengths glide the reader through canyons, valleys and peaks to a very quiet resting place to contemplate and... weep. Exquisite, Richard. Outstanding treatise on humanity's inhumanity behavior.
