I think back to my childhood days with joy
I reflect on the games I played as a boy
Somehow time had an impact on this old mans mind
And when I truly admit it this is what I find
I wanted to play ball but Mom said not today
Go do your homework and the grass needs mowed by the way
On one cold winter day I went outside without a hat
Dad said, “You better not let your mother catch you doing that
I wished and yearned for the day when I was old
I would go where I pleased, and not do as I was told
I would run my own life and do my own thing
I hadn’t thought of the consequences of having an offspring
Today I am old and my daughter says, “Dad you must eat right”
“And clean yourself up, Dad. Gee you’re a sight
Now this poor old man has to drag himself out of bed
This growing up thing is not as great as they said
Oh those youthful days when I would rule the human race
I would become president or an astronaut in space
Instead, I find I am an old worn-out man
Oft-times as they do, astray went my plan
Thanks, Dick
