Do you know why they're all facing outward?
No one wants to be behind. ;-)

I never met a musk ox and I don't like
burgundy wine. I guess I wrote this because
sometimes you've got to get out of your
comfort zone and sniff out the best there is. ;-)

 Musk

How musk is a musk ox's smell?
That sweet fragrance straight from hell.

I don't know, but you sure can tell,
when you get close enough.

Which brings me to snuff.
You know, that musky stuff?

You put in your nose to get a high?
Just gives me, a pungent watery eye.

And what better musk tart,
than sweet burgundy wine.

Served with an aged beefsteak,
seared and broiled to divine.

The aroma of mushrooms,
from the damp forest floor.

Bursting with flavor of musk,
the safe, rubbery kind we adore.

And speaking of adoration,
may I implore?

Think of that valley,
that men search for.

Seeking out the dank musk,
that drives musk ox cows wild.

In pheromone heaven you'll abide,
a safe warm place for a nose to hide.

The safe warm place from the cold,
enjoyed whether you are young or old.

So if you're in a blizzard,
with your butt to the wind.

Follow the musk;
it will get you in.

Ron you have a marvelous and unusual sense of humor, I love it.

Ron, this musk have taken a bit of thought to write with such marvelous humor. And the number one reason Musk circle is to make someone the butt of their jokes? Not really. I imagine the pheromones from a wild bovine are enough to make one nauseous. Well at least there is nothing fishy about this poem. I wish you love and peace my friend. Jon Michael

Interesting what you have done with the word Musk, Ronald. When I was a child I vaguely remember a perfume with the word, Musk. I wonder what it smelt like or whether the users understood the word and all that it means. Cheers

that's how they attract their females
ever see what a Male Moose does for a cow heard?
He lets his urine build up
then releases it into a big urine puddle
then he rolls in it head to tail
the females go gonzo beans...

Musk Oxen form a circle facing outward with the calves in the middle to protect them, kind of a "circle the wagons" thing. As for musk ox aroma....I don't know...you raise an interesting question.

Well written,

Ron, this is super! Your introduction starts us on a spirited note, and this cascade of couplets is jauntiful and expressive. It gives us olfactory delight and start. I like the ease with which these words set out the vision of the smell. You mix them both in a pleasant punch for the nose. Extra special word choices I find in here, Ron....beginning with "...sweet fragrance straight from hell." That sets the tone that is nicely followed with "...rubbery kind we adore." I find "...that valley,/that men search for." not only tasteful and romantic, but a beautiful way to say what you are meaning here. "...your butt to the wind" is gleeful. The only suggestion I have is that I think removing the comma after musk and omitting the word 'it' in the last line, makes for a smoother finish. Great poem, Ron!! ~~ Diana

Might I add one caution to your humorous write.

Beware if you the Musk Ox's rear do stare,
for if they ever backwards move
it's their arse end you'll horifyingly and forever glare

Cheers,
Dan

I never sniffed a musky ox, I don't expect to sniff one
but I can tell you anyhow I'd rather sniff than stiff one.
But, yes, that valley that men search for and adore has pheromones galore...and musk more.
