One of my pet peeves is the misuse of effect and affect, loose and lose. And sundry other misused words almost gone. I don't hear much anymore the fake words, center around, irregardless, along with too many "likes" and/or "you knows" in conversation.

Meteor Impact Courtesy SciTechDaily.com Impact It hit me with the impact of a meteor, how a thought would be so impactful. life passing by as you hit the wall, hurts so bad, the impact was awful. When a news person says, impact, he/she is telling the absolute truth. So emotional they can't help but cry, like being punched by the uncouth. New graduate hopes to impact the world, making a lot of money to pack the wallet. Especially by joining pacts with money, ramming displeasure down our gullet. When the impact of becoming pregnant, finally reaches the young girl's mind, she is leaving the first trimester, already, two months behind. So, if you are one of those impacted, by one of those very serious claims, get on the phone with the lawyers, with a ready line of serious blames. There's nothing like an exaggeration, even if it's only an impacted tooth, to go all with a gun to impact the one, who spread the lie that wasn't the truth. If you are impacted by this poem, I'm sorry that I've told you so. Just replace impacted with affected, you will be ready to get up and go. Copyright 2023 © Ronald W. Mixing serious with jovial, (my favorite being �with a ready line of serious blames.�.) I savor exaggeration as the spice in the ice tea, the lemon, the cinnamon, the honey. Here you have a slug of a punch in the face with �ramming displeasure down our gullet{s}.� Your writing has grit, gristle, grace and wit � I love it. My mother, in her English Teacher capacity, had pet peeves also: �where is it at?� was one, �for free� another, lack of untrite vocabulary words was another. I live in the dictionary and wish I could retain, but alas��..thank you, Ron. ~~ djl

The play of words looking the same but in the context of something else, mean something altogether different.

Funny how words can mean such different things to different people. I was visiting with a close relative recently, and though we may have known the same people throughout our lives, our experiences turned out to be very different. Impactful, indeed! Affected...triggered...all sorts of words to help confuse ourselves and others. Great point, Ron. Have a wonderful weekend:)

You got this right. "Affected". vs "Impacted." Misuse of words sometimes arises by accident, sometimes by ignorance, and sometimes, as we continue to be "affected" by the writings of emoji-crazed wannabe writers. I'm working on a Kerouac book at the moment and even way back then, making up words, many of which badly spelled even in their creative zeel, is frustrating. So, yes. It's out there and no sign of receding. doG help us in 10 years of this. Add to it what the WGA and SAG continue to be outraged over the AI and other techno advancements that will only "affect" the world of communications even further.
