Just a little play on the idiom. "Wait till the cows come home."

A Maid Milking by Gerard Ter Borch

Holy Cow!

The cows came home,

precisely at six,

And somehow I knew,

I was really in a fix.

I hadn’t milked a cow,

Since I was a kid,

What I was doing with forty,

Nearly blew my lid.

Got online immediately,

To my acquainted friend,

Milk maid was at my door,

Knew a cow’s front from end.

Hired her on the spot,

She milked every damn one.

Sold the milk to an organic store,

We were making money hon.

That was many years ago,

And we are still having fun,

Branched out to having children,

And always on the run.

Glad it wasn’t chickens home to roost!

Entertaining reminder of just one of the many ways rural America cannot survive its Urban obsession with out nature's readiness to give what support it represents. Took me back to my younger years when the weekly 40 mile car ride to my grandfather's farm. I remember he too found a few times that the chore of milking was overwhelming. Thanks for the reminder.

What wonderful word play! I love it! I can see the cows - and the 'maid a milkin' - thank you for this delightful insightful!
