An American Beauty rose from my garden.

Poem Artwork

In remembrance of big Luis

lost to the crack pipe not long ago,

but will always be remembered

by his true friends who loved him so.

The church did not understand

how to work with his addiction, so

the prayers that he needed, he did not

receive; and his families name was greed.

They stuffed his 300 pound body

in a cheap wooden box and put him

in the ground with a few fake tears.

I sang a spiritual song.

My big teddy bear was gone.

You shared smiles with everyone you met.

Your Mother gave me the eagle in rememberance

of you and still calls me from Puerto Rica

on special holidays.  She still crys

she misses her big teddy bear too.

Oh, Louisa, I am so very very sorry for your loss. I recently lost my brother at 42, suddenly, from a heart attack. He was an addict in recovery, clean 17 of the 20 years before he passed-crack was the last drug of choice before he got clean and it stole everything from him in a hurry and actually got him clean faster when he was faced with homelessness, jail or death-it is such a battle, and many see addiction and mental illness as something to be swept under the rug or to be embarassed about, but the more people keep perpetuating that kind of thinking, so many more incredible people who could turn their lives around will be lost to the evils of addiction. He is with God now, and I know I for one will always pray for him from here on. I totally agree with Joyce's comments, too- God bless you sweet lady and I will be praying for you and the repose of Luis's soul. Love, Michelle

It is always sad whether in life or in death for people to be treated as this fine person was. It leaves another scar on mankind. Your words of love, kindness and fondness come through well in this beauty...

Be always safe,
Karen

HE WAS CONNECTED TO A 'HOSPITAL' THANK GOD. NO MATTER THAT HE DID NOT 'SEEM' TO RECEIVE WHAT HE NEEDED THERE...GOD SAW HIS HEART AND THE MERE FACT THAT YOU CAME TO LOVE HIM...MEANS THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING GOOD THERE...IF YOU SAW IT...THEN ASSUREDLY, OUR GOD WHO CREATED HIM, KNEW IT AND WE CAN JOY IN THIS... THAT HE IS AT REST. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WORK THAT IS FULL OF THE IMAGERY AND PHRASES THAT TOUCH. BLESSINGS. JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
