No boots, little food in a training camp called
Valley Forge,
brave young men froze to death in place.
Yet, each one volunteered, their belief in
an ideal,
the American way and the freedom to
say grace.
 

Today, as a group, they continue to defend all that we stand for,
even our right to support or sometimes complain.
Our freedom to protect and march in
the streets,
the choice to speak out or share in disdain.
 

The books we choose to read, the movies
we watch,
walks in the park or at some local beach.
To feel safe in your home when you go to bed,
knowing they are out there to halt
any breach.
 

Soldiers by day and angels by night,
we all owe our gratitude to what
they forgo.
Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines,
dedicated representatives with pride to show.
 

Every minute of every day soldiers
must leave,
their families behind to carry on and wait.
On this Veterans Day show pride, fly
your flag,
say thanks to a soldier and set the record straight.
 

To all our Veterans past, present
and future....
I for one salute you!
