Celebratory Dinner.........
 

  Climate is changing, getting cooler each day,
leaves turning colors of red, brown, orange
and gold.
Most of my feathered friends have
traveled south,
trees swaying in the breeze shaking off
the old.
 

With a crispness in the air families
are gathering,
planning their time to all be together again.
The first of may holidays is just around
the corner,
a day of thanks and parades bring
many a grin.
 

Children will gather on a curb or on the grass,
anxiously waiting for their favorite float to
pass by.
Balloons and clowns, horses, high
school bands,
all joining together to laugh, smile and sigh.
 

The very young all wrapped up in warm
wooley blankets,
being pushed through the streets in a stroller
or carriage.
Older children sitting on their father's
shoulders,
seeing a country come together in marriage.
 

Waiting at home, a celebratory dinner unfolds,
the aroma throughout makes your
appetite yearn.
Biscuits, giblet gravy, sweet potatoes
and turkey,
logs in the fireplace set up and ready to burn.
 

Music playing softly with a few
Christmas carols,
to set the mood while sitting around
the table.
Before beginning this feast, remember to
give thanks,
bow your head, say a prayer when you
are able.
 

Remember all who struggled and how it
all began,
a time very long ago when the
Pilgrims landed.
A place called Plymouth Rock, now carved
in history,
later generous natives opened their arms
very candid.

Together they rejoiced and had their fill,
spent the day learning customs they
soon shared.
Women with their kettles over open
fires cooked,
men folk talked, realizing how much
they cared.
 

On this glorious day as you all celebrate,
take some time, give thanks to our
Lord's power.
May your love grow and all your dreams
come true ,
and may peace unfold like the petals on
a flower.
