I'm trying hard
Not to give in
To my anger
Or my despair.
I've long felt
Like a useless
Appendage
In my family,
Someone only grudgingly
Accepted, and barely
Loved;
Now, through his actions,
My father has validated
Every one
Of the doubts
And fears
That I have struggled with
Since earliest childhood.
I am to be, in effect,
Disinherited.
Everything is to go
To two of my brothers.
I'm told that I
Can remain in this house,
It is yours, they tell me,
Yet they will not make it
Official by law.
What happens
If I outlive them?
Will their spouses
Honor their promise?
How I wish
I could afford
To live on my own
Far away from this place
Where I don't belong
Because I'm not really
Wanted.
I enjoyed reading your poem today but it is sad in a way, that you
should feel the way in which you do. Just remember in God's word, he
says when your father and mother forsake you then will I take you up.
Remember "You Are Loved By The Best, Jesus Loves You". Be happy about that and you will live just wonderfully.
I have a hard time believing you are not wanted...perhaps in the eyes of an uncaring father who plays favorites not acknowledging your worth. But not likely by the rest of the world.
Since my paralysis 50 years ago, my family has found it hard to include me in everything. I believe they are very grateful that I am very independent and have made it on my own without their help.
It is a nagging feeling. I certainly hope that you can get beyond this, because it is disheartening, and get free on your own without having to worry about inheriting anything. My father was very smart (?) And spent all his money like water down the drain. Left my mother in the poor house and gave us kids nothing.
A book-length psychodynamic study of pathological narcissism, relationships
