The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Year
By La Belle Rouge

What a year, oh what a year!
We ran out of chew bones
and wee wee pads, My Dear
They said the housing market
and Wall Street both fell
but we were looting dumpsters
and just too busy to tell

What a year for all us dogs
No steak bones to chew on
No more feasting like hogs
Spent the whole damn year
wearing an old ragged sweater
Wishing fortunes would get better

The dog house roof leaked
and we all got sick and wet
No health insurance, No vet
When thinking it won’t get worse
Uncle Rover gets run over
by a pimped out Caddie hearse

Illustrious Bo, the presidential pet
eats treats from a bottomless jar
He gets to live in the White House
while we’re domiciled in a junk car
No college tuition, no transportation
It’s obvious we won’t go too far

With terror threats and two wars
and all those huge political fights
even average joe, god-fearing dogs
are having some sleepless nights
At least we can’t afford a TV
so the evening news we can't see

So exhausted it’s hard to breathe
hope those crooked politicians
have something better up their sleeve
No access to whiskey or illegal dope
stressed mutts with dragging tails
we’ve almost lost all our hope

Rhinestone collars lost their gems
People send us to animal shelters
on little more than their whims
What a year… thank God it’s done
and what we wouldn’t give for
a Milk Bone….just one!

Belle, you have just aided in substantiating that Johnson's theorem is factual -- Johnson's theorem states," Murphy was an optimist" -- there is so much truth told in your dogging satire -- but as I always tell myself, cheer up, it gets worse -- Happy New Year and peace and love to you my friend -- Jon Michael

Poor Uncle Rover. I guess things could be worse for the rest of us. Very amusing and sadly true. Great music to accompany. Patrick

The poem reminds me of that film tittle, "Wagging the dog", cos, in 2009 Murphy's Law proved not to be just an expression of frustration, but the real deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great metaphor with the pups to illustrate the seemingly endless problems facing us right now. Two wars, no health insurance, no jobs. I don't know anyone not touched badly by this past year. You put it together so well. Awesome. Liz

Cute write, but I am glad 2009 is overwith too, especially when Obama took office. I do NOT like that man. I'm sorry, but I don't! Just don't trust him; never have, never will!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

It needs to be made into a video! Every word, every dog-felt emotion! It's GOOD! It's CANINE HUMOR in HUMAN FORM! It's La Belle Rouge in her MANY TALENTS! Happy New Year 2010, Belle!...

Sending lots of love, (((HUGS))) and Milk Bones your way - it was a terrible year, wasn't it? Hopefully, 2010 will be better for all of us, human AND animals. Well penned, La Belle. May your 2010 be prosperous and blessed beyond measure, with only good things for you and your loved ones.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
