Balance the budget On the backs of those who served And break a promise.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ President George W. Bush's budget would more than DOUBLE many veterans' co-payment for prescription drugs, from $7.00 a month for each prescription, to $15.00 a month.
This is how we say, 'Thank you'?
The budget would require some veterans to pay $250.00 a year to use government health care. Why would I want to pay for substandard service? (The Dallas, TX, V.A. Hospital was recently voted the worst in the nation.) There is already a waiting list for services.
This is how we say, 'Thank you'?
Now is not the time for cutting services to our men and women in uniform, who served proudly and continue to serve. With the ongoing war in Iraq, the government needs to be committed to providing the best care to its veterans.
The best way to say 'Thank you' is to keep the promises made (including free health care) to its military members. It is the least the government should do.

The Philadelphia VA hospital is not a bad place, their staff really does try, but without the needed money from the government, what can they do...? This is a very important issue, no one that served in any war or in any service should have to pay to get health insurance...Ed
I'm sorry to hear this Karla!There was something raised to 100.00 that I thought had to do with health care. do you know what that is?
I thought he said they would be getting more benefits. I hope what you say is a mistake, if not we should all write to our congressment and to the whitehouse now!!! I'm going to look on the website.

Unfortunately in the Commonwealth of Virginia the men and women who have served Virginia pay at least $5,000.00 a year for health insurance under the now present Governor and we are $110.00 short each month. Warner said Anthiem or Blue Cross/Blue Shield was not going to go up. He lied and if Kerry had gotten his way it would have been cut more. Including the vests for the present soldiers serving. George Allen from our state and Joe Leiberman have proposed upping the death benefit. At least that is one team that says no way Hosea to cutting their benefits. Dave is right and I am seeing now a pattern that has been set for more than a century.
Thank you very much for bringing this up, Karla; I was just about to post something on this very topic.
Once again, our valiant vets are being asked to 'bite the bullet' in this country, and something like this should never ever happen to them after they return home. I truly hope these cuts in VA benefits are quickly swatted down.
And I've been to the Dallas VA Hospital, and over 100 other VA hospitals, and although all of them truldy have some marvelously dedicated staff, not many improvements can be made without the needed cash.
A lot of "American" people can speak about promises made by our government. We promise, promise, promise, then they are broken just as fast. Corruption, deception... all at the expense of children going to war, for a country they believe in. Not just Iraq, but Vietnam, Korea, and both World Wars... The pattern has never changed...
